pointed shall fail to bond as required by law, within twenty
days after their appointment, the levy courts, commission-
ers or mayor and city council of Baltimore, as aforesaid,
shall make new appointments in place of those so failing to
bond, and continue after every twenty days, to fill up said
appointments, until collectors shall have given bonds for all
collection districts in the State.

CHAP. 270.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the taxes in all the
counties and the city of Baltimore and Howard district for
the year eighteen hundred and forty-one, and eighteen hun-
dred and forty-two, shall be collected and paid into the
treasury in the following manner, one half on or before the
first day of June next and the residue on or before the first
day of September next.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the taxes due for the
year eighteen hundred and forty-three and succeeding years
shall be collected and paid into the treasury at the following
times to wit: for eighteen hundred and forty-three, one-
fourth on the first day of January; one-fourth on the first
day of April; one-fourth on the first of July, and one-fourth
on the first day of October, in the year eighteen hundred
and forty-four, and for the year eighteen hundred and forty-
four, beginning for the first instalment on the first day of
January eighteen hundred and forty-five, and for the suc-
ceeding quarters at the times before mentioned in this sec-
tion, and in the same manner for succeeding years.

SEC. 8 And be it enacted, That in all cases in which
any collector of taxes shall fail to pay the amount due, and
payable by him into the treasury for state direct taxes, at
the time required by law, it shall be the duty of the trea-
surer to report the fact to the governor, who is hereby re-
quired if in his judgment the interest of the state requires
it, to order suit on his bond, and to remit all or any part of
the interest chargeable to said collector under the act to
which this is a supplement, and its supplements taking into
consideration the fidelity with which he has discharged his
duty.

acts inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed.
