fifth election district of Harford county, be and he is here-
by authorized and empowered to collect any taxes or bal-
ance of taxes now remaining due to and uncollected by him
in the district aforesaid, in the same manner and with the
same power and privileges as are allowed by existing laws
in said cases made and provided.

CHAP. 197.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That the aforesaid
John Ward, shall be, in every instance, before he may pro-
ceed to the aforesaid collection, make affidavit before some
justice of the peace of said county that the same remains
unpaid, and that he hath not received any security or sa-
tisfaction for the same or any part thereof, more than what
credit may be allowed.

CHAPTER 197.

An act to authorize Judah Crockett, of Somerset county,
to make a sale and conveyance of a small tract of land
called Old Fields.
|

WHEREAS it is represented to this General Assembly
that the infant children of Hughland Crockett, late of So-
merset county, deceased, are seized and possessed of a
small tract of land on Smith's Island, in Somerset county,
and that Judah Crockett, widow of Hughland Crockett,
and mother of said infant children, is desirous of selling
said tract of land for the better support of the children —
therefore,

Preamble.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Judah Crockett, widow of the said Hugh-
land Crockett, and mother of said infant children, be and
she is authorized and empowered to sell and convey under
the direction of the Orphan's Court, said tract of land, upon
such terms as the said court may prescribe, having regard
to the interest of the said infant children.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Orphan's
Court may, and they are hereby authorized to allow to the
said Judah Crockett, such proportion of the said purchase
money in lieu of her dower as is now allowed by the scale
used by Somerset county Court in Chancery cases.
