ty, to appoint three judges of election for the town of
Havre-de-Grace, and it shall be the duty of said judges to
open and hold a poll at some convenient place in said town
at the same lime and in the like manner as the polls are held
in the several districts of said county, and the judges of
said town shall make their return in the like form and sub-
ject to the like regulations in all respects as are prescribed
by law, to the other judges of election for the several
election districts of said county.

An act supplementary to an act entitled, An act to revive the
twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth sections of an
act passed at December session eighteen hundred and fif-
teen, chapter one hundred and sixty-six, entitled, An act
to incorporate a company to make a turnpike road from
the Frederick and Baltimore turnpike road, commencing at
the west end of Fredericktown to Harper's Ferry, on the Po-
tomac river, passed at December session eighteen hundred
and thirty-eight, chapter tiro hundred and sixty eight.

Preamble.

WHEREAS by the act to which this is a supplement, the
president and managers of the Frederick and Harper's
Ferry road company were authorized to draw a scheme or
schemes of a lottery or lotteries, to raise the nett sum of
fifty thousand dollars, clear of all expenses of drawing said
lotteries, or to sell and dispose of the privilege of so doing;
and whereas if the stockholders of said road company
will consent thereto, the public interest would be promo-
ted and protected by using the drawing of the said lotteries
under the control and direction of the lottery commission-
ers appointed by the State — therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That, the lottery commissioners of the State of
Maryland be and they are hereby authorized and required
with as little delay as the nature of the case will admit of,
to realize and raise the said nett sum of fifty thousand dol-
lars, over and above all taxes, charges and expenses inci-
dent thereto, by way of a lottery or lotteries, in the same
manner and by the same means that they have heretofore
raised money for the benefit of the State of Maryland, un-
der the lottery system of the said State; provided, that
nothing herein contained, shall be construed as creating in
said commissioners, a power to giant licenses to sell or deal
