majority of the subscribers to the Franklin School, who by
law are entitled to vote for trustees of the same, by reso-
lution to be entered on the minutes of said school, shall ac-
cept this act; all the property of the said Franklin School

academy, and the said trustees of Washington academy, shall
be responsible in law for all contracts of said Franklin School.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be

convey any property, real, personal or mixed, which they
now possess, or are entitled to, or which they may become

of said institution.

tablished under this act shall be situated and conducted in

determined on by the Trustees not Further than a half mile
from the court house in said town.

CHAPTER 7G.

 

An act for the protection of Mechanics and others, in Alle-
gany County.

1842.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That every building erected within the limits of
any city or town in Allegany county, shall be subject to a
lien for the payment of all debts contracted for work done
or materials furnished on or about the erection or construc-
tion of the same.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the lien of such debts,
shall extend to the ground covered by such buildings, and
to so much other ground immediately adjacent thereto and
belonging in like manner to the owner of such building,
as may be necessary for the ordinary and useful purposes
of such buildings.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That every person entitled to
such lien shall file a claim or statement of his demand in
the office of the clerk of said county court, whose duty it
shall be to keep a book or docket which shall be called the me-
chanics lien docket, " in which he shall cause to be entered
and recorded all claims that may be filed by virtue of this
act, noting on said claims the day on which the same were
filed.
