Proviso.

tion, and the said justices shall give notice in writing to be
set up in some public place in each election district, of the
times of such meeting; provided, that nothing in this act
shall be construed to prevent the levy court from meeting
at any other lime during the year for the transaction of other
business appertaining to their office.

An act to unite the Trustees of Washington Academy and
the Franklin School in Somerset county, into one Insti-
tution, to be called Trustees of Washington Academy.

Preamble.

Whereas, the trustees of Washington academy and the
Franklin School in Somerset county, have, by their joint
memorial, petitioned the General Assembly to pass an act
authorizing the union of the two institutions into one.

United

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That upon the acceptance of this act as herein-
after provided, the said institutions be and they are hereby
declared to be united into the trustees of Washington Aca-
demy, and that the trustees of the Washington Academy
and the trustees of the Franklin School, be and they are
hereby constituted and declared to be trustees of Washing-

ton Academy, and as such to have and exercise all the
powers, privileges and emoluments, and to perform all the
duties of trustees of Washington Academy, according to
the act of assembly passed at November session in the
year seventeen hundred and seventy nine, chapter fifteen,
and the several supplements thereto.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That whenever any vacancy
shall happen in the board of trustees of Washington Aca-
demy, by death, removal, resignation or otherwise of any
member of the said board, the vacancy thus occasioned
shall not be supplied until the number of the board of trus-
tees shall be reduced to eighteen members.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That when the number of the
aforesaid board shall have been so reduced as aforesaid, it
shall consist of eighteen members and no more.

Assent to be
given.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That when a majority of the
board of trustees of Washington Academy in a meeting
assembled for that purpose to be called, shall by resolution
