CHAPTER 74.

An act empowering the Commissioners of Baltimore Coun-
ty to build a Bridge across Gwynn's Falls, at or near
the Franklin Factory.

CHAP. 74.

Passed Feb. 15,
1841.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of Baltimore county
be and they are hereby authorised and empowered to levy
upon the assessable property of said county, a sum of mo-
ney sufficient to build a bridge across Gwynn's Falls, at or
near the Franklin Factory; provided, said commissioners
shall be satisfied that the public interest and convenience
shall require the building of said bridge at the expense of
the county aforesaid; the cost thereof shall not exceed the
sum of one thousand dollars.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of
Baltimore county shall appoint three commissioners to con-
tract for and superintend the building of said bridge, whose
duty it shall be to require bond and security, to be approved
by the aforesaid bridge commissioners, for the faithful per-
formance of the contract.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That the, said bridge com-
missioners before they shall have made the contracts
hereinbefore provided, shall advertise for sealed proposals
for the construction of said bridge, in which advertisements
they shall specifically designate the kind of materials and
the plan upon which said bridge shall be constructed.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That when the bridge com-
missioners shall have contracted for the erection of said
bridge, they shall make an estimate of the cost, and deliver
the same to the county commissioners, who shall pay over
to the said bridge commissioners, or their order, from time
to time, such sum or sums of money as will enable them to
purchase materials and pay for the labor of building said

sand dollars; and when said bridge shall have been com-
pleted, a true and faithful account of all the cost and ex-
penses shall be rendered to the county commissioners by
the aforesaid bridge commissioners, or a majority of them;
and then the county commissioners are hereby authorised
and required to pay over to said bridge commissioners, or
their order, the balance, if any may be due, of the amount
