CHAPTER 54.

A supplement to the act, entitled an act to divorce Josephine
Hawke, of the City of Annapolis, from her husband
Richard James Hawke, a mensa et thoro.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Josephine Hawke, who was divorced from her hus-
band Richard James Hawke, by act of Assembly of De-
ccmber session, eighteen hundred and forty, be and she is
hereby authorised and empowered to resume, take and use
her maiden name of Josephine Street Elworthy.

An act to alter and amend the Constitution of this State

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall not be lawful for the Legislature
of this State, to authorise any loans upon the credit of this
State, which are not redeemable at the pleasure of the
State, until the proposed loans are sanctioned by an act
passed at the session of the General Assembly next suc-
ceeding that at which they are proposed and passed, so
that the opinion of the people of the State may be expres-
sed thereon.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That if this act shall be con-
firmed at the next General Assembly, the same shall be
considered as a part of the constitution and form of go-
vernment of this State.

WHEREAS, it appears by the journal of accounts of this
session, that there is due from this State, the sum of ten
thousand four hundred and seventy-nine dollars and forty-
eight cents — Therefore,
