WILLIAM GRASON, ESQUIRE, GOVERNOR.

1840.

petitioners further represent, that for the purpose of better
and more effectually carrying out the benevolent objects of
their association, they are desirous that their said associa-
tion may be incorporated — therefore,

CHAP. 174.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the said Thomas Jenkins, Lemuel Stew-
ard, John Doming, Charles Turner and their associates and
successors, be and they are hereby created and made a
body corporate, by the name and style of the Newington
Beneficial Society, and by that name shall have succession,
and be capable in law to sue and be sued, to adopt and have
a corporate seal; to take, bold, sell and transfer any. estate,
real, personal and mixed, not exceeding in the whole, at
any one time, the sum of ten thousand dollars in amount or
value; and to make by-laws, rules and regulations for the
government of the said society.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the General Assembly
of Maryland, at any time hereafter, may repeal this act.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted. That nothing contained in
this act, shall be so construed as to authorise or empower
said corporation to issue any note, certificate, token or evi-
dence of debt, to be used as currency.

Banking forbid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That this act shall enure for
thirty years from its passage, unless sooner repealed by the
General Assembly of Maryland.

CHAPTER 174.

In force.

An act for the benefit of Thomas F. W. Vinson, late She-
riff and Collector of Montgomery County; and William
N. Austin, Trustee of William O'Neall, late Sheriff
and Collector of said County.

Passed Feb. 27,
1841.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and alter the passage of this act,
Thomas F. W. Vinson, late sheriff and collector of Mont-
gomery county, and William N. Austin, trustee of William
O'Neall, junior, late sheriff and collector of Montgomery
county, or any subsequent trustee that may be appointed,
be and they are hereby empowered to collect all fines, for-
feitures, amercements, officers fees, public dues and coun-
ty taxes and levies, in the same manner as the said sheriff
and collectors were severally authorised to do whilst they
were in office; provided, that if any person or persons, his,
