CHAPTER 379
(House Bill 487)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 77
of Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Howard County", sub-title "County
Commissioners", as said section was amended by Chapter
867 of the Acts of 1945, relating to the salary of the County
Attorney.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 77 of Article 14 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Howard
County", sub-title "County Commissioners", as said section
was amended by Chapter 867 of the Acts of 1945, be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

77. The County Commissioners of Howard County are
hereby authorized and directed to employ at an annual salary
of One Thousand and Six Hundred Dollars per annum,
payable quarterly, one attorney-at-law, to act for and
represent as legal adviser, the Board of County Com-
missioners of Howard County, the Board of School Com-
missioners of Howard County, the County Treasurer and Col-
lector of Howard County, the County Surveyor and Engineer
of Howard County, the Board of Supervisors of Election of
Howard County and the Board of License Commissioners of
Howard County, in all matters of legal nature requiring the
services of an attorney-at-law. The said attorney shall advise
said Boards or individuals by his opinion in all legal matters
referred to him by any of said Boards or individuals, and said
attorney shall also appear in Court to prosecute or defend
all suits brought by or against any of said Boards or indi-
viduals acting in his, their or its official capacity.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
