SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 378
(House Bill 481)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 27
of Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1947 Edition), title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title
"Annapolis", relating to retirement of members of the
Annapolis Police Department.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 27 of Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1947 Edition), title "Anne Arundel
County", sub-title "Annapolis", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
27. A member of the Police Department may be retired
from the department after twenty years of active service on a
retirement salary of forty per cent, of his last yearly salary or
fifty per cent, at the expiration of twenty-five years of active
service or sixty per cent, after thirty years or more of active
service. If permanently incapacitated for, active duty by
accident in line of duty which accident shall occur in less
than twenty-five years of active service his said retirement
pay shall be fifty per cent, of his salary at the time of his
retirement. It shall be mandatory upon the Mayor and
Aldermen to appropriate and levy each year a sufficient sum
to pay the pensions herein provided for to all members of the
Police Department retired under the provisions of this sec-
tion. There shall be no provisions in the law under which
a member of the Police Department may apply for retirement
or be retired at a certain age limit.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
