and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
18 of Article 78B of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1947 Supplement), title "Racing Commission", relating
to the employment of certain personnel by the Depart-
ment of Post Mortem Examiners and the payment of
salaries of such personnel.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 2 of Article 22 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Post Mortem Exam-
iners", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

2. The said Commission is hereby authorized and
directed to appoint three medical examiners, one to be
known as Chief Medical Examiner, and the other two as
Assistant Medical Examiners, and a toxicologist and,
subject to the approval of the Board of Estimates of Bal-
timore City, to fix their compensation which shall be paid
by the Comptroller of the State of Maryland out of that
portion of the funds collected by the Racing Commission
allocated and paid to the several Counties of the State and
Baltimore City. The Chief Medical Examiner and the
Assistant Medical Examiners shall be licensed Doctors of
Medicine, and shall have had at least two years post-gradu-
ate training in pathology. The said Commission shall ap-
point, to such extent as may be authorized by the Board of
Estimates of Baltimore City, such other professional or
technical personnel, clerks and other employees as may be
necessary for the proper administration of the Department
and at such compensation as may be provided for by the
said Board of Estimates in the Ordinance of Estimates of
Baltimore City. Such other professional or technical per-
sonnel and the clerks and employees shall be appointed in
accordance with the provisions of Sections 142 to 156,
inclusive, of the Baltimore City Charter (1946 Edition),
known as the Merit System.

Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent
the Commission from employing the services of physicians
on a contract basis for part-time services, as may be
authorized by the Board of Estimates of Baltimore City.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 18 of
Article 78B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947
Supplement), title "Racing Commission", be and the same
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

18. (A) All sums collected by the Racing Commission,
