Flack's Edition (1943), providing for a special assessment
to be levied by the Mayor and City Council of Mount
Rainier, Maryland, for the use of the Mount Rainier Volun-
teer Fire Department.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 1037 of Article 17 of the Public Local
Laws of Maryland, Flack's Edition (1943) is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
1037. The Mayor and City Council of Mount Rainier,
Maryland, a municipal corporation, is hereby authorized and
empowered to levy and collect annually a special assessment
of not to exceed ten cents on a Hundred Dollars, according
to the assessed valuation appearing on the books of the
Treasurer of said City on all real and personal property
situated in the City of Mount Rainier, in Prince George's
County, Maryland, the money derived from said special
assessment to be paid to the Mount Rainier Volunteer Fire
-Department as long as it provides adequate fire protection
to the residents and property within the corporate limits
of the City of Mount Rainier, said money to be used by the
said Mount Rainier Volunteer Fire Department for the ex-
clusive use in its maintenance, operation, care and purchase
of equipment, a detailed statement of the expenditures of
such money to be submitted to the Mayor and City Council
of Mount Rainier by the Mount Rainier Volunteer Fire De-
partment in the months of January and July each year, pro-
vided that, for the tax years 1949 to 1953 inclusive, the
Mayor and City Council may levy an additional special
assessment of not to exceed five cents on a Hundred Dollars,
the money derived from this additional levy to be used by
the Mount Rainier Volunteer Fire Department to finance
construction of additional building to house the equipment;
this money to be accounted for in the same manner and at
the same time as the other funds mentioned in this section.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety, and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote^ supported by three-
fifths of all of the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.
