a metal tag indicating that the fee for the current year has
been paid, and said tag shall be attached to the wagon, cart
or motor vehicle used by the applicant. Any person vio-
lating the provisions of this sub-title shall, upon conviction,
be fined not less than Two Hundred Dollars ($200. 00) nor
more than Five Hundred Dollars ($500. 00) to be recovered
as other fines are recovered.

SEC. 2. And be it -further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 155

(House Bill 214)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
36 of Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1947 Supplement) title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Ad-
ministration—Registration—Titling", permitting transferee
of motor vehicle to use same license plates as transferor
where transferred from joint names of husband and wife to
individual name of either, or from individual name of hus-
band or wife to husband and wife jointly.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 36 of Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1947 Supplement) title "Motor Vehicles", sub-
title "Administration—Registration—Titling", be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

36. (Registration Expires on Transfer by Owner. ) (a)
Whenever either by act of the parties or operation of law,
a motor vehicle registered in the joint names of husband and
wife, is transferred to the individual name of either spouse,
or a motor vehicle registered in the name of either spouse
individually is transferred to their joint names, the same
registration plates may, if desired by the transferee, continue
to be used on the motor vehicle after the transfer as were
used before. In all other respects the transfer shall be
treated the same as any other transfer by a private owner of
a registered vehicle.

(b) Except in the case of transfers from the joint
names of husband and wife to the individual name of either,
