SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

AN ACT to add a new section to the Code of Public Local
Laws of Baltimore County (Smith's 1948 Edition), to be
under a new sub-title to be known as "Special Police
Officers", under the title "Police Department", to be known
as Section 264A, to follow immediately after Section 264,
to authorize the County Commissioners of Baltimore Coun-
ty to appoint and provide for the compensation and duties
of Special Police Officers.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be added to the Code of Public
Local Laws of Baltimore County (Smith's 1948 Edition),
to be under a new sub-title to be known as "Special Police
Officers", under the title "Police Department", to be known
as Section 264A, to follow immediately after Section 264,
and to read as follows:
264A. In addition to the power and authority hereinbefore
granted to appoint and regulate a Police Department, the
County Commissioners of Baltimore County are authorized
to appoint such number of Special Police Officers as they
may deem necessary for the proper protection of persons
and property in Baltimore County.
Such Special Police Officers may be appointed or dis-
charged without reference to the provisions of this title re-
lating to regular police officers, and they shall not be mem-
bers of the regular Police Department or entitled to any of
the rights and privileges of such members. They shall per-
form such duties and receive such compensation, if any, as
the County Commissioners may determine. Before entering
upon the performance of their duties they shall give such
bond, as the County Commissioners may prescribe.
Said County Commissioners are authorized to levy a
sufficient sum upon the taxable property in Baltimore Coun-
ty to pay such Special Police Officers.
