WM. PRESTON LANE, JR., GOVERNOR. 1715

127. PLATOON SYSTEM. The Chief of Police shall or-
ganize the Police Department on the basis of a three-platoon
system. The hours of duty of each such platoon and the
order of shifting their sequence shall be as set by the Chief
of Police. The assignment of members of the Police Depart-
ment to the several platoons or shifts shall be based upon
the seniority of the members, with the senior members in
point of service having the right in the order of their length
of service to designate the platoon or shift which they prefer.
Nothing in this section shall be construed as limiting the
right of the Chief of Police to call out any member of the
Police Department for longer hours in the event of emergency
or unusual conditions or circumstances.

128. VACATIONS, (a) Members of the Police Depart-
ment shall be entitled to not less than 15 days vacation with
pay, and sick leave as other members of the Classified Serv-
ice. In addition, they shall each be entitled to a leave of ab-
sence with pay for one day every week, as designated by the
Chief of Police. The members shall be entitled to said leave
for two days each month, and to leave for vacations, in the
order of their seniority, with the senior members in point of
service having the right in the order of their length of service
to designate the time or times they prefer.

(b) Any member of the Police Department injured in the
performance of his duty shall receive compensation for such
time as he may be prevented from performing such duties
because of the injuries so received, agreeably to the Work-
men's Compensation Laws of this State. The city shall for
a maximum period of fifty-two weeks supplement such pay-
ments under the Workmen's Compensation Laws, so that the
injured person shall continue to receive aggregate payments
equalling his average compensation immediately prior to the
injury, and the city shall have a right of subrogation as to
such payments made by it to the injured person.

129. RETIREMENT. (a) The members of the Police De-
partment shall be eligible for retirement on pension on arriv-
ing at the age of sixty, except that on application to the
Mayor and City Council they may be continued as members
of the Police Department from year to year until they reach
the age of sixty-five, when retirement shall be mandatory.
The Chief of Police, the Assistant Chief, the Lieutenant and
the Sergeants may upon application be continued from year
to year, on the approval of the Mayor and City Council, with-
out limitation as to age.

(b) Every member of the Police Department retired under
the provisions of this section shall be paid an annual pension
