penalty is provided, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and
upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of
not exceeding $1, 000. 00 or by confinement in the House
of Correction for a period not to exceed six months, or
both fine and imprisonment in the discretion of the court,
and shall have his license revoked, and he shall not be
eligible to obtain, either directly or indirectly, another
license for a two-year period following such revocation.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That before the
provisions of this Act shall become effective, the County
Commissioners of Charles County shall submit the ques-
tion to the qualified voters of said County at a special
election to be called by said County Commissioners for
Tuesday, June 21, 1949, at places to be designated by
them. Notice of said election shall be given by publication
in at least one newspaper printed and published in said
County at least two weeks before said election. The ballots
shall be prepared by said County Commissioners of said
County and shall have printed on them a condensed sum-
mary of the provisions of this Act. Costs of said election
shall be paid out of the general funds of the County Com-
missioners. The polls shall be open from 7. 00 A. M. to
7. 00 P. M.
Printed on said ballots shall also appear the words "For
Licensing Amusement Devices", and "Against Licensing
Amusement Devices", with a blank square opposite and
to the right of each set of said words. The voter shall
indicate his choice by making a cross mark (X) in one of
said blank squares. The County Commissioners shall
appoint the necessary officers to conduct the election with
the usual pay for such duties.
If a majority of the persons voting on said question
shall cast their ballots marked "For Licensing Amusement
Devices", then this Act shall be immediately of full force
and effect, but if a majority of the persons voting on said
question shall cast their ballots marked "Against Licens-
ing Amusement Devices", then this Act shall be void and
of no effect.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1949.
