ment and purchase new vehicles and equipment; and all
equipment, automobiles, or motorcycles purchased under this
sub-title shall be and remain the property of Anne Arundel
County, and shall be returned by the members of the police
department to whom said equipment may be issued, upon
separation, for any cause, from said department, and the
County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County shall pro-
vide for the maintenance and repair of said motor vehicles
and equipment and for the operation of said motor vehicles
and equipment including gasoline, oil, tires, batteries, and
accessories for the same.

429, Retirement.

(a) The Board of Police Examiners of Anne Arundel
County are hereby authorized to retire any member of the
Anne Arundel County Police Force who shall become per-
manently disabled while in the active performance of police
department duties and the member so retired shall receive
an annual pension equivalent to fifty per cent. (50%) of his
salary at the time of his retirement.

(b) The Board of Police Examiners is hereby authorized
to retire any member of the Anne Arundel County Police
Force who has performed faithful service in the department
for a period of not less than twenty (20) consecutive years
and place the member so retired upon a pension roll and he
shall receive an annual pension equivalent to forty per cent.
(40%) of his last yearly salary or fifty per cent. (50%)
at the expiration of twenty five (25) years of active service
or sixty per cent. (60%) after thirty (30) or more years of
active service; and provided that the members of the police
force in service under, the provisions of this sub-title shall
be credited with the amount of time which they shall have
served as paid police officers of Anne Arundel County prior
to the enactment of this Act to the same extent as "though
they had served such period of time as police officers in the
said department after June 1, 1949.

(c) Whenever any member of the Police Force dies after
retirement, the amount of his annual pension shall be paid
to his widow, or in the case of her death or remarriage, to his
minor children in equal shares for five (5) years.

(d) Whenever any member of the Police Force dies as
a result of injuries sustained in the performance of a police
department duty or dies before retirement, though eligible
therefor, benefit payments equal to one-half of the regular
monthly salary of such member shall be paid to his widow,
