Commissioners from time to time; provided that such clerks
shall not be 'deemed a part of the police force, nor entitled to
the benefit of pension laws for members of the police force,
nor be entitled to wear the police uniform.

426. Contraband or Seized Articles.

(a) The Chief of Police, or a person authorized by him,

(1) may destroy any contraband articles or goods seized
by or delivered to said department, after removing any
money contained therein.

(2) shall sell at public auction all lost, abandoned, un-
claimed, forfeited, undistributed contraband, or stolen
property, remaining in the possession of the department for
a period of six (6) months without a lawful claimant.

(b) The Chief of Police shall pay over to the County
Treasurer for the use of the County, all money removed from
contraband, all proceeds of such sales, and all lost, aband-
oned, unclaimed, forfeited, or stolen money remaining in the
possession of the department for a period of six (6) months
without a lawful claimant.

427. Powers.

The members of the Anne Arundel County Police Force
shall have all of the powers possessed by the sheriffs of
the State of Maryland under the general law of the State,
or under the local laws of Anne Arundel County, insofar as
such powers are in reference to the criminal jurisdiction of
said sheriffs in making arrests or in any manner enforcing
the law or laws of the State of Maryland.

428. Equipment.

The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County shall
equip and arm said Anne Arundel County Police Force.
The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County are
hereby authorized, empowered and directed to purchase
equipment including motor vehicles, motorcycles with or
without sidecars, radio receiving and sending apparatus,
both for stationary use and for use in and about said motor
vehicles, in such number, together with such other police
equipment, as in the judgment of the said County Commis-
sioners may seem advisable for the use of said Anne Arundel
County Police Department, and said County Commissioners
may from time to time sell, trade or otherwise dispose of
said motor vehicles, or motorcycles, or radio or other equip-
