(d) If Virginia takes action shortening its season for
catching shad and herring by 10 days from the end of such
season, or takes such action contingent upon action by the
State of Maryland, shortening its season for the catching of
shad and herring in its tidal waters, as provided in this section
by 5 days or less from the end of such season, then the season
for catching shad and herring in each of the tidal waters of
this State, as provided in this section, shall be shortened in
each case by 5 days from the end of such season.
SEC. 2. And be* it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 550
(House Bill 343)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 56
of Article 39 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Fish and Fisheries", sub-title "Nets and
Seines", relating to contrivances for catching fish in the
Choptank River.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 56 of Article 39 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Fish and Fisheries", sub-title
"Nets and Seines", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enact-
ed, with amendments, to read as follows:
56. (Choptank River. ) It shall be unlawful to haul seine
of any description whatever in the waters of the Choptank
River from the 21st day of May to the 31st day of July,
both dates inclusive, each year.
SEC. 2. And ~be> it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
