(p) The County Treasurer of Washington County shall re-
ceive an annual salary of $4, 800. 00. The Deputy Treasurer
and Clerks shall each be paid such compensation as the
said Treasurer, with the approval of the County Commis-
sioners of said county shall determine. The County Commis-
sioners shall pay all the office expenses of the Treasurer and
shall have the power, in their discretion, to increase the com-
pensation of the Treasurer and the employees in his office.
(q) The County Treasurer of Somerset County shall receive
an annual salary of not less than $3, 000. 00 nor more than
$3, 600. 00 in the discretion of the County Commissioners.
SEC. 2. And be> it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

(House Bill 342)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
59 of Article 39 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947
Supplement), title "Fish and Fisheries", sub-title "Shad
and Herring Season", relating to dates of Shad and Herring
Season.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted 'by tine General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 59 of Article 39 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Fish and Fisheries",
sub-title "Shad and Herring Season", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
59. (a) The season for catching shad and herring in the
tidal waters of this State shall be January 1st to June 5th,
inclusive.
(b) It shall be unlawful for any person to catch, offer for
sale, or have in possession any shad or herring fresh caught
in Maryland between June 11th and December 31st, inclusive.
(c) The season for catching shad and herring in the Poto-
mac River shall be from March 1 to May 26, both dates
inclusive, but if the State of Virginia shall by law provide
that the said season shall be from January 1 to June 5, in-
clusive, such dates shall thereupon mark the season for
catching shad and herring in the Potomac River.
