106A. (a) The County Commissioners shall set the salary,
wages or compensation of every officer or employee of the
County and shall set the amount to be allowed as office or
other expenses, for such officers and employees, unless such
salary, wages, compensation or expenses are established by
law.

(b) All such salaries and wages shall be established at
least equal to the prevailing salaries and wages for compar-
able work in the community where performed.

(c) All officers and employees of the County who are
hourly employees shall work on the basis of an 8-hour day
and a 40-hour week. For any work performed in excess of
8 hours in any one day, or in excess of 40 hours in any one
week, they shall be paid at the rate of one and one-half times
their normal wages or compensation. Such excess wages or
compensation shall be computed on either a daily or a
weekly basis, whichever is greater.

(d) The County Commissioners shall insert into every con-
tract for doing any public work on behalf of the County a
provision that any contractor or sub-contractor doing or per-
forming such work shall as to all his officers and employees
observe the requirements of sub-sections (b) and (c) above,
according to the terms thereof.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Sections 546 and
565 of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land (1930 Edition), title "Allegany County", sub-title
"Roads", and Chapter 1063 of the Acts of 1945, be and they
are hereby repealed.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

(a) of Section 36 (LL) of Article 1A of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "City of
Cumberland", sub-title "Police and Fire", said sub-section
having been enacted by Chapter 572 of the Acts of 1947,
providing that members of the Classified Service of the City
