permit for same after application shall have been made to the
police commissioner of said City. It shall be the duty of the
police commissioner to ascertain the character of the organi-
zation on whose behalf the application is made to determine
if such applicant comes within the provisions of this section.
The application and the action taken thereon by the police
commissioner shall be a public record. When the Police
Commissioner issues said permit, he shall receive a fee of
fifty cents (50^) to cover the cost of the issuance of said per-
mit; provided, however, that no such permits shall be issued
for the playing of the game of Bingo in any regular restau-
rant or tavern where alcoholic beverages are sold or in any
permanent place of amusement or entertainment. Provided,
that nothing herein contained shall be construed to permit
the playing of said games on Sunday; and provided further
that the provisions of this section shall apply only to Balti-
more City.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 530

(House Bill 248)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 1 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Alle-
gany County", said new section to be known as Section
106A, to follow immediately after Section 106 of said
Article, and to be under the sub-title "County Commission-
ers", relating to the compensation of county employees and
the employees of contractors on county work in Allegany
County and to repeal sections 546 and 565 of said Article,
sub-title "Roads", and to repeal Chapter 1063 of the Acts
of 1945, all relating to the compensation of county em-
ployees in Allegany County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-
tion), title "Allegany County", said new section to be known
as Section 106A, to follow immediately after Section 106 of
said Article, to be under the sub-title "County Commission-
