such credit only if he pays into the Special Fund established
under this sub-title the amount of money which would have
been payable by him thereto if for such period he had been
such an officer or employee of the Police Department. Pro-
vided, however, if such officer or employee was a member of
the Employees' Retirement System of Baltimore City, he
shall receive such credit only if he pays into the Special
Fund all of his contributions or payments to the said Em-
ployees' Retirement System, together with the interest there-
on up to the time when he withdrew his contributions, and
in the event such contributions have not been withdrawn,
then such contributions, together with the accumulated in-
terest, shall be paid into the Special Fund of the Police
Department.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 529

(House Bill 224)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
303 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1939 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title
"Gaming", relating to the playing of Bingo in Baltimore
City.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted "by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 303 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Crimes and Punish-
ments", sub-title "Gaming", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

303. Nothing in this sub-title shall be construed to make
it unlawful for any bona fide fraternal, religious, patriotic,
educational or charitable organization or any bona fide fra-
ternal, religious, patriotic, educational or charitable corpora-
tion to operate or conduct a game of bingo in Baltimore City
where no cash or prize of a greater value than Fifteen Dol-
lars ($15. 00) is offered or given in any one game and where
the entire proceeds are devoted to charitable purposes ex-
clusively or in furtherance of the purposes of such organiza-
tion or corporation. Before the game of Bingo may be
played in Baltimore City, it shall be necessary to obtain a
