thirteen (13) linemen, Telephone and Signal Division;
eighteen (18) charwomen; three (3) hostlers; thirty-
eight (38) chauffeurs; one (1) chief engineer, two (2)
engineers and three (3) firemen, Marine Division;
one (1) foreman, such number of maintenance men and
laborers as may in the judgment of the Commissioner be
necessary; one (1) chief machinist; fourteen (14) ma-
chinists; one (1) printer; twenty-four (24) turnkeys;
twenty-five (25) signal and telephone operators; eight (8)
stationhouse clerks, and such number of clerks for duty
at police headquarters as may in the judgment of the said
Commissioner be necessary.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 484
(Senate Bill 431)

AN ACT to add fifteen new Articles to the Compact of 1785
made between the Commonwealth of Virginia and the
State of Maryland, said Articles to follow immediately
after Article 13 of said Compact, and to be numbered
Article 14 through Article 28, both inclusive, relating
to the establishment of a Maryland-Virginia Chesapeake-
Potomac Authority and defining its powers, duties and
responsibilities in relation to fin fish, crabs and oysters,
and making the effectiveness of this Act depend upon
its passage by the Legislature of the Commonwealth of
Virginia and ratification by the Congress of the United
States.

WHEREAS, the General Assemblies of Virginia and Mary-
land adopted identical resolutions which established a
Commission composed of three members from each State
to:

(1) Restudy the Compact of 1785 and the concurrent
legislation enacted thereunder with respect to the fisheries
of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay:

(2) Consult and advise with the pertinent State, inter-
state and Federal agencies and citizens concerned there-
with;
