of office as now prescribed for councilmen of the City of
Hyattsville, shall become members of The Mayor and City
Council of Hyattsville as of July 1, 1945, to serve until the
first regular meeting of The Mayor and City Council of Hyatts-
ville in May, 1947; at the regular election for City officials to
be held on the first Monday in May, 1947, two councilmen
shall be elected to replace the Councilmen to be appointed
under this Act for the Fourth Ward, one, of whose term shall
be for two years and one of whose term shall be for four
years, and biennially thereafter, a councilman shall be elected
for the Fourth Ward for a period of four (4) years to succeed
the councilman whose term of office is expiring; all council-
men to be appointed or elected under this Act shall possess
the same qualifications as are now required for councilmen
for the City of Hyattsville, and any vacancies which may
occur in the office of Councilman from said new ward shall
be filled as now provided by law.
The Mayor and City Council of Hyattsville shall, prior to
the municipal election to be held in May, 1947, appoint regis-
tration officers and provide for the registration of voters in
said annexed territory in accordance with the law providing
for the registration of voters in the City of Hyattsville. The
election for councilmen provided for and, created by this Act,
and all subsequent elections, and all necessary arrangements
therefor, including the appointment of election judges and
clerks of election for said annexed territory, shall be pro-
vided for in the same manner and in accordance with the
public local laws of Maryland applicable to the election of
officers in said City of Hyattsville. All voters so registered
shall be entitled to vote for the councilmen whose positions
are created by this Act and for all other elective officers of
said City who are to be voted upon by all of the voters of
the City.
724E. Beginning with the municipal levy to be made for the
tax year 1945-1946, the persons resident and the property
situate within the territory which by this Act is annexed to
the City of Hyattsville, shall be subject to the same taxes,
assessments, license fees and charges as are now imposed in
said City of Hyattsville, or may be hereafter imposed. The
Treasurer of the City of Hyattsville is authorized and required,
in addition to the duties heretofore imposed upon him, to
collect all municipal taxes, assessments, license fees and
charges levied, assessed and imposed by The Mayor and City
Council of Hyattsville, upon all persons resident and prop-
erty situate within said annexed territory, and for the purpose
of levying, assessing and collecting such taxes, assessments,
license fees and charges within such annexed territory, there
