lations for the operation of taxicabs in said City and for the
registration and fixing requirements for the owners and oper-
ators of taxicabs so as to protect the safety, health and general
welfare of said City and its residents, citizens and occupants,
provided said regulations are not in conflict with the laws of
the State of Maryland, and regulations adopted by the Com-
missioner of Motor Vehicles.

The Mayor and Aldermen of Frederick shall be empowered
to request the aid of the Public Service Commission of Mary-
land in the determination of rates which may be established
under this Article, and the Public Service Commission of
Maryland shall be empowered to extend such aid as may be
requested from time to time by the Mayor and Aldermen of
Frederick in the determination of rates so far as such aid is
consistent with the statutory powers conferred upon said Com-
mission by the laws of Maryland.

The violation of any of the provisions of such ordinance or
ordinances shall be considered a misdemeanor, and upon con-
viction thereof before a trial magistrate of said City, or other
competent Court, the offender shall be subject to a fine of not
exceeding $25. 00 for each offense and in default of payment
of the fine, to imprisonment for not exceeding 25 days.

460B. The word "taxicab" when used in this sub-title, shall
mean a taxicab as defined in Section 361 of Article 23 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition).

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 144
of Article 66 12 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1943
Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Operation of
Vehicles Upon Highways", relating to interference with
official traffic-control devices or railroad signs or signals.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 144 of Article 66 12 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles", sub-
title "Operation of Vehicles Upon Highways", be and it is
