the incorporated towns of Allegany County.

WHEREAS, there is a state-wide law licensing auctioneers,
thereby superseding the local law of Allegany County;
therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,

That Sections 6 to 10, inclusive, of Article 1 of the Code of

Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title

"Allegany County, " sub-title "Auctions, " be and they are

' hereby repealed.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1945.

Approved March 24, 1945.

CHAPTER 308.

(Senate Bill 223)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 10
of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939
Edition), title "Merit System. "

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 10 of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Merit System", be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, so
as to read as follows:

10. Examinations held by the Commissioner to establish
lists of persons eligible for appointment may be written or
oral or in the form of a demonstration of skill or any com-
bination of these and shall be of a character fairly to test
and determine the relative figures and ability of candidates
actually to perform the duties of the class of positions to
which they seek to be appointed. Any investigation of train-
ing and experience and any tests of technical knowledge, man-
ual skill or physical fitness that in the judgment of the Com-
missioner serves to this end may be employed.

In all examinations to determine the qualifications of a
preference applicant, credit shall be given for all valuable
experience, including experience gained in civic, service and
