To the Clerk of the Court of Appeals:
I, WILLIAM J. MCWILLIAMS, SECRETARY OF STATE, OF THE
STATE OF MARYLAND, pursuant to the direction contained in
Chapter 441 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland
of 1922, DO HEREBY CERTIFY, That at the General Election held
in this State on Tuesday, November 7, 1944, an Act known as
Chapter 320 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 1943, was
submitted to the voters of the State of Maryland for their
adoption or rejection, under provisions of Article 16 of the
Constitution of the State, said Act being:
"An Act to repeal Article 38 of the Declaration of Rights
of the Constitution which requires the General Assembly
to consent to conveyances and certain gifts to churches
and denominations. "
AND I DO CERTIFY, That at said election 99, 371 votes were
cast in favor of the adoption of said Chapter 320 of the Acts
of 1943, and 118, 179 votes were cast against the adoption of
said Act, in the State of Maryland; and a majority being
against the adoption thereof, it was thereby rejected by the
voters of said State.
