tion shall apply only to allocations of State revenues from
new sources originated by any of the Acts of 1945 or any sub-
sequent regular or special session of the General Assembly of
Maryland; and shall not apply to any of such allocations now
being received by said County under laws heretofore enacted
prior to the 1945 Session, nor to future allocations from pres-
ent sources of State revenues originated prior to the 1945
Session.
SEC. 2. And be it farther enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

CHAPTER 1042.
(House Bill 688)
AN ACT to create a corporation under the jurisdiction of the
Board of Regents of the University of Maryland to promote
and develop industrial research and to transact such busi-
ness as may be incident thereto.
WHEREAS, the University of Maryland has recently been the
recipient of a large gift for industrial research and probably
will receive other gifts of a like nature; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maryland will, through the Univer-
sity of Maryland, cooperate with industry in carrying on re-
search, and may develop research of such nature entirely of its
own volition; and
WHEREAS, it probably will become necessary, in the course
of the proposed research, to apply for and obtain patents, to
dispose of same, and receive income from same, and to accept
gifts and grants, and in other ways promote and develop in-
dustrial research; now, therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That there is hereby created a corporation to be known
as the State Institute for Industrial Research, the purpose and
business of which shall be to accept gifts, grants, and in other
ways to promote and develop industrial research in the Uni-
versity of Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That for the purposes of
this Act the term industrial research shall be deemed to indi-
