which his successor shall be chosen to serve until the expiration
of the next regular term of Treasurer, or until his successor
may be elected and qualified.

160. (Treasurer—Duties. ) The Treasurer shall make all
collections of taxes and receive all money paid for the use and
benefit of said Corporation and shall, upon the order of the
Mayor and Common Council, make all the authorized disburse-
ments of said town. He shall keep an account of the receipts
and disbursements of the funds of the Corporation and shall
render the account to the Mayor and Common Council when
required by them, for all monies received and disbursed by him.

161. (Treasurer—Salary. ) The Treasurer shall receive for
his services the sum of Six hundred ($600. 00) dollars per year,
payable in monthly installments of Fifty ($50. 00) dollars each.

162. (Clerk—Appointment, Duties, Salary, Bond, Vacancy. )
The said Mayor and Common Council, at their first meeting
after they shall have been elected and qualified, shall elect a
Clerk, who may or may not be a member of the Common
Council, who shall keep a careful record of the proceedings
and ordinances enacted, which shall be open to the inspection
of all persons interested therein, and shall safely keep all
records and documents, issue licenses, collect monies therefor
and turn same over to the town Treasurer. He shall, also, keep
proper accounts as Clerk and shall perform such other duties
as the Mayor and Common Council may assign to him. The
Mayor and Common Council shall fix the amount and author-
ize the payment of the salary of said Clerk, and the said Clerk
shall, before assuming the duties of his office, give bond for the
faithful performance of his duties as such Clerk, in the sum as
may be directed by the Mayor and Common Council. In the
event of the death, resignation, or removal of said Clerk from
said town, or of his failure to serve, the Mayor and Common
Council shall elect a successor to serve for the unexpired term.

163. (Bailiffs—Appointment, Duties, Oath, Compensation. ).
There shall be appointed by the Mayor, subject to the confirma-
tion of the town Council, one or more persons to serve as
bailiff of said town, whose duty it shall be to preserve the peace
and good order of the town. The bailiff or bailiffs are hereby
vested with the same power and authority now possessed by
other police officers under the laws of this State, and the bailiff
or bailiffs shall take the regular oath and enter upon their
duty upon the first day of July in each year. The bailiff or
bailiffs shall be paid, for executing and serving process for any
violation of any ordinance of the Mayor and Common Council
