land State Police and two other physicians to be selected
by the Superintendent of the State Police and acceptable
to the State Police Department employee concerned to be
physically incapable of performing the duties and services
required of him; and in all retirements under the provisions
of this section. the employee in question shall be paid during
the remainder of his natural life a salary or pension, pay-
able monthly, equal to fifty per cent (50%) of his annual
remuneration, said annual remuneration to be taken as of
the year immediately preceding the granting of his appli-
cation for retirement. No money payable under this sub-
title shall, prior to issuance and delivery of the warrant or
voucher therefor, be capable of being assigned, charged or
taken in execution or attachment. All employees subject
to the provisions of this sub-title shall contribute to the
Pension Fund, hereinafter provided for, a sum to be deter-
mined by the Superintendent of the Department of Mary-
land State Police but not to exceed three and one-half per
centum (3 1/2%) of their annual remuneration, said sum
to be approximately equal to one-half of the annual cost of
this pension system to the individual employee so contrib-
uting. The amount of the contribution of each of the em-
ployees subject to the provisions of this sub-title shall be
fixed annually in advance by the Superintendent of the
Department of Maryland State Police and shall be deducted
monthly from the remuneration of the said employees and
paid in lieu thereof to the Superintendent of the Depart-
ment of Maryland State Police to be placed by him forth-
with in said Pension Fund. The said Fund shall also consist
of all fines imposed upon members of the Maryland State
Police by way of discipline, donations, all lost, abandoned,
unclaimed or stolen money, which may remain in the pos-
session of said Department for the space of three years
and for which there shall be no lawful claimant, and net
proceeds of sale of unclaimed property in the custody of
said Department.
For the purpose of determining the ten years of continu-
ous meritorious service rendered by any of the employees
of said Department, transferred thereto from the Commis-
sioner of Motor Vehicles, or by any of the license exam-
iners of the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, the years of
service shall include those rendered to said Commissioner
and/or to said Department as the case may be.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1945.
