written, but so that the name and said other entries shall remain
legible. During the last hour of said session, if any person so
notified to appear at such session has not yet appeared and
shown cause why his name should not be erased from the regis-
try, the Board shall cause his name to be erased and marked as
disqualified, dead or removed, as the case may be, unless a
majority of the Board are satisfied of their own knowledge
or upon competent testimony that such person is entitled to
have his name retained on the registry. The name of no per-
son shall be erased from the registry during his service in the
Armed Forces of the United States. Under the head of "Re-
marks" opposite each name erased shall be stated the facts
as to such erasure, the date thereof, and the grounds and
evidence on which made. The member of the Board acting as
clerk shall by mail to his last known address on the registry
books, and not later than the second day after the close of
the session provided for in this section, notify any person
whose name has been erased from the registry of such fact.

18. Each Board of Registry at the end of the session last
provided for shall compare and correct the two registers and
make them agree, and the officers having them respectively
in their custody shall then immediately under the last name
registered under each letter of the registers sign their names;
all of said officers of registration shall then subscribe, at
the end of each register, a certificate in substance as follows:

"We, the undersigned, constituting the Board of Registry
in ———— precinct or district of ———— county, in the State
of Maryland, do jointly and severally certify that, at the reg-
istration of voters in said precinct or district closed on this
—I—— day of ————, 19—, there were registered by us the
names which in this book are entered and that the number
of registered and qualified was and is the number of ————".

The registers shall by noon of the second day thereafter be
returned to the Board of Supervisors of Elections. The said
Boards of Supervisors shall furnish to any one making written
application therefor within ten days after such application
has been received, a certified copy, under their hands, of the
names, addresses, color and ages of all persons registered
in any election precinct" or district of said county, for the sum
of half a cent for each voter's name on the registry.

19. The provisions of Sections 12, 13 and 15 to 18, inclu-
sive, shall not apply to Baltimore City, Montgomery County
and Washington County except as specifically provided, but a
system of permanent registration as hereinafter provided in
