CHAPTER 869.
(House Bill 693)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments. Section
64 of Article 2GB of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1943
Supplement), title "Alcoholic Beverages", sub-title "County
Dispensaries", relating to the Liquor Control Board of Mont-
gomery County, and its appointment, powers and duties,
and relating to the terms and salaries of the members thereof.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 64 of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1943 Supplement), title "Alcoholic Beverages", sub-
title "County Dispensaries", be and the same is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
64. (Liquor Control Board—Appointments, Powers and
Duties—Montgomery County. ) In Montgomery County the
Governor is hereby authorized, directed and empowered to
appoint, a Board, consisting of five (5) persons, who shall
constitute and be styled "The Liquor Control Board for Mont-
gomery County". Said appointments shall be for a term of
six (6) years. In making said appointments, the Governor
shall designate one of the appointees to be Chairman of the
Board. All members of the Board shall be residents and voters
of Montgomery County and persons of high character, integrity
and recognized business capacity. The members of said Board
shall receive as compensation Twelve Hundred ($1, 200. 00)
Dollars per annum, and in addition thereto the Chairman
shall receive an additional sum of Four Hundred Dollars
(|400. 00) per annum. The first appointments hereunder shall
be -effective as of the first day of May, 1945. In case of any
vacancy prior to the expiration of said term, the Governor
shall appoint some eligible person to fill the vacancy, and
shall appoint the successor members of said Board at the
expiration of the terms heretofore mentioned in this sub-title
for periods of six years each.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety and having
been passed upon by yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses of
the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take effect
from the date of its passage.
