LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 297

shall on the second Monday of May, in each year
at the Market house, in, said city, elect one person
residing in said city, and having real and personal
property therein to the value of five hundred dol-
lars, mayor of the city of Cumberland.

Councilmen.

SEC. 3. The persons qualified as required by the
preceding section, shall also, at the same time and
place elect six persons, who shall have resided in
said city one year next preceding said election, and
who shall be assessed on the books of said city to
a sum not less than one hundred dollars, as council-
men of said city.

Ordinances.

SEC. 4. The mayor and councilmen may pass
such ordinances not contrary to law as they may
deem beneficial to the city, they shall have power to
remove nuisances and obstructions from the streets,
lanes and alleys, and from any lots adjoining there-
to, and also, any houses or other buildings that
may become dangerous to the neighborhood on
any account, and to prevent all nuisances and an-
noyances in said city, and may impose such rea-
sonable fines, forfeitures or imprisonments as to them
may appear necessary for the violation of any ordi-
nances of said city.

AN ACT entitled, An act to preserve certain land
records of Montgomery county.

Rebinding of
Libers.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That James G. Henning, Clerk of the
Circuit court of Montgomery county, cause to be
rebound in a good and substantial manner Libers
A., B., C., D., E., F., G., H., J., K., L., M., O.
and P. of the land records, in the clerk's office of
said county.

Compensation.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That the commisioners
of taxes of Montgomery county, levy upon the asses-
sable property of Montgomery county such amount
as is sufficient to pay for the same, and cause the
said amount to be paid to the said James G. Hen-
