take effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 298.

AN ACT entitled, An act to incorporate a company
to construct a turnpike road from Hagerstown to
Cearfoss' cross-roads, in Washington county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That Daniel Cearfoss, Henry Zeller,
Dr. A. B. Scott, F. T. Zeigler, Samuel Zeller, John
Horst, Daniel Rife, Peter Negly, Benjamin Eshel-
man, Joseph P. Mong and all other persons who
may have, or shall hereafter subscribe to the stock
of said company, be and they are hereby incorpo-
rated a body politic for making a turnpike road, to
commence at some point within the corporate limits
of the town of Hagerstown and extending to Cear-
foss' cross-roads.

Incorporated.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the capital stock
of said company shall not exceed fifteen thousand
dollars, to be divided into shares of twenty-five dol-

lars each, and as soon as the sum of five thousand
dollars shall have been subscribed, a majority of
the subscribers shall give two week's notice in one
or more newspapers published in Hagerstown of
the time and place designated by them for the share-
holders to meet for the purpose of organizing said
corporation, who shall then and there choose by a
plurality of votes, and by ballot, a president and
five managers, any three of whom shall form a

necessary for conducting the affairs of said com-
pany until the first Saturday of November thereaf-
