exist or as they existed at any time prior to the
passage of this act.

CHAP. 284.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the president and
directors of the said society shall be entitled to re-
ceive from the Treasurer, upon the warrant of the
Comptroller, the sum of seventy dollars for each
emancipated slave or free negro, male or female,
above the age of ten years, and the sum of thirty-
five dollars for each of such persons under the age
of ten years, who shall appear by the written cer-
tificate of the said president and directors filed by
them in the office of the Comptroller, to have been
sent by them to Africa within the period of two
months immediately preceding the date of such
certificate; Provided, the said payments per capita
under the provisions of this section shall not exceed
the sum of five thousand dollars in any one year.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the officers of said
society shall not be entitled to receive any compen-
sation for the removal of any free negro or negroes,
unless said free negro or free negroes shall have
been bona fide residents of this State for the space
of five years next preceding their removal.

effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 284.

AN ACT to incorporate the purchasers of the
Elkton, Andora and Lewisville Plank Road Com-
pany.

WHEREAS, heretofore, to wit: on the fourteenth
day of May in the year eighteen hundred and fif-
ty-seven, the Elkton, Andora and Lewisville Plank
Road Company, incorporated by the acts of the
General Assembly of Maryland of eighteen hun-
dred and fifty-three, chapter three hundred and
twenty-two, and eighteen hundred and fifty-eight,
chapter one hundred and eighty-seven, under and
by virtue fifteenth section of the act first above
named, hath by authority of the stockholders in
