bridge shall be built under the immediate direction
and superintendance of said commissioners or a
majority of them.

CHAP. 210.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That if either of the
commissioners as aforesaid shall die or remove out
of the county in which he is commissioner, before
the completion of said bridge, or refuse to act, the
commissioners who shall have been appointed to
act with them may appoint some other person, resi-
dent of said county in which he was a commis-
sioners to act in his place, and the person so ap-
pointed shall have the same powers and authorities
as are vested in the said commissioner in whose
stead he shall be appointed as aforesaid.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the commissioners
aforesaid, or a majority of them, shall render to the
county commissioners of their respective counties at
their meeting next after the expenditure of said
money by them laid out by virtue of this act in re-
building said bridge, and the said county commis-
sioners in their respective counties shall make such
compensation to said commissioners as they in their
judgment may think proper.

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That if, after rebuild-
ing of said bridge as aforesaid there shall be any sur-
plus of the sums to be levied on the respective coun-
ties as aforesaid in the hands of the commissioners
appointed by virtue of this act, it shall be the duty
of the said commissioners, or a majority of them to
account for and pay over said surplus rateably and
equally to the county commissioners of their re-
spective counties as aforesaid.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after the date of its passage.
