1860.

amended, as soon as practicable and before the hold-
ing of any election whatsoever in said city, shall lay
out and divide each and every of the wards of the
said city, into election precincts, in the following

CHAP. 9.

manner, that is to say: the first ward into three
precincts; the second ward into three precincts;
the third ward into four precincts; the fourth ward
into three precincts; the fifth ward into two pre-
cincts; the sixth ward into three precincts; the
seventh ward into four precincts; the eighth ward
into four precincts; the ninth ward into two pre-
cincts; the tenth ward into two precincts; the
eleventh ward into three precincts; the twelfth
ward into three precincts; the thirteenth ward into
two precincts; the fourteenth ward into three pre-
cincts; the fifteenth ward into four precincts; the
sixteenth ward into three precincts; the seven-
teenth ward into four precincts; the eighteenth
ward into seven precincts; the nineteenth ward
into four precincts; and the twentieth ward into
four precincts.

Division.

SEC. 2. The said precincts in each ward shall be
as nearly equal to each other as may be practicable,
in voting population and shall be set apart with as
much regard as may be to the proximity and con-
centration of their several parts and to the conve-
nience of the voters therein.

SEC. 3. The board of police shall cause the said
precincts in each and every ward to be numbered
one, two, &c., and the description of each thereof
to be recorded in a book to be kept by them for the
purpose, and as soon as the said division shall have
been so made and recorded, the said board shall
cause the said description of the several precincts,
with their respective number, to be published daily
three times, in all the daily papers of the city of
Baltimore, which shall be willing for a proper com-
pensation to insert the same.

SEC. 4. It shall be the duty of the said board of
police from time to time after the said first division
shall have been made, to alter and correct said
divisions whenever they may deem it expedient, so
however as not to increase or diminish the number
of precincts in any of the several wards as afore-
said.
