CHAP. 9.

CHAPTER 8.

Passed Feb.
14, 1860.

AN ACT to amend the eight hundred arid seven-
teenth section of the fourth article of the Code of
Public Local Laws, which authorizes the Mayor
and City Council of Baltimore to clean the streets
and protect the pavements of said city, and to
substitute the following section, giving to the
Mayor and City Council, in addition to the pow-
ers contained in said section, the power to erect
lamps and cause the same to be lighted at the
expense of the city.

Power of
Mayor, &c.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Mayor and City Council of
Baltimore shall have power to clean the streets and
remove the dirt and filth therefrom, and to prohibit
and punish by ordinance, the placing of any dirt,
filth, or other matter therein, and may protect any
pavement by prohibiting the travel thereon, and
the said Mayor and City Council, may also erect
lamps in any of the streets, lanes or alleys of said
city, and cause the same to be lighted at the ex-
pense of the city.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from the day of its passage.

CHAPTER 9.

AN ACT to amend the fourth article of the Code
of Public Local Laws, by inserting therein the
following sections, regulating elections in the city
of Baltimore, and to repeal the eighteenth sec-
tion of said article, touching elections.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the following sections be added to the fourth
article of the Code of Public Local Laws:

SECTION 1. The board of police of the city of Bal-
