CHAP. 9.

lice shall as soon as possible thereafter, distribute
the same generally into equal precincts as nearly
as may be, to contain four hundred and fifty voters
more or less, as nearly as in their discretion they
may deem advisable, and shall from time to time
thereafter amend such distribution, if need be, so
as to produce such result, and they shall cause the
said alterations or new divisions and amendments
thereof to be likewise recorded and advertised as
hereinbefore provided.

Residence.
|
SEC. 6. After the making of such several divi-
sions or distributions into precincts, the votes of the
citizens, entitled by law to vote in any ward of the
city of Baltimore, shall be given and received only
at the place of voting in the precinct in which they
shall reside at the time of such voting or in which
they may have last resided previous to their remo-
val from the said ward, if they have so removed,
and have not acquired a legal residence elsewhere.

Judges of
election.
|
SEC. 7. It shall be the duty of the said board of
police immediately after they shall have established
election precincts as first herein provided, to nomi-
nate and appoint three discreet persons in each of
said precincts to act as judges of election therein,
designating in said appointment, one of said per-
sons as presiding judge, the said judges to be legal
voters of the precinct, for which they shall respect-
tively be appointed, and to hold office for the term
of one year from and after the date of their appoint-
ment and for so much longer time as they may be
willing, and the said board may see fit, subject
however to removal at any time by the said board;
but each and every person so appointed shall unless
excused or removed by the said board or disquali-
fied by ill-health or otherwise according to law, be
bound to serve as such judge for the term of one
year as aforesaid when appointed, once in every five
years if required, and in case of refusal so to do
shall be liable to a penalty of five hundred dollars,
recoverable by the said board, by civil action in the
name of the State, and a failure to attend at any
election during said term, unless prevented by
sickness or other sufficient cause, shall be deemed
a refusal within the meaning of this section.

Vacancies.
|
SEC. 8. The said board shall have power and
authority, and it shall be their duty, to fill all
vacancies which may be caused among said judges.
