CHAP. 97.

13. Before proceeding to sell any property tinder
the eleventh section of this article the collector
shall give twenty days notice of the time, place and
cause of said sale, by advertisment in some news-
paper (if there be any, ) published in the county,
and by hand bills set up at the Court House Door,
and at not less than four public places in the neigh-
borhood of said property.

14. In all cases of the sale of the real estate under
the provisions of this act, the person owning the
same, prior to the sale, shall be entitled to redeem
the same by paying the purchaser thereof, within
twelve calendar months from the day of sale the
the principal sum which said purchases has paid
together with fifteen per cent, interest thereon.

Costs.

15. The cost of making distress for taxes under
the preceding sections of this article shall be,
for summoning and swearing two appraisers and
making schedule, one dollar; to the appraisers, fifty
cents each; the expenses of advertising, and in case
of sale, five per cent, to the collector on the gross
amount of the sale.

Duties and
privileges.

16. It shall be the duty of all collectors ap-
pointed under the seventh section of this article to
ascertain and return to the commissioners of the
county all the accumulation of assessable property
in their respective districts, and they shall have all
the powers, privileges, duties and liabilities given
and prescribed to collectors of taxes by the eightieth
article of the Code of Public General Law, and
before entering upon the duties of their office they
shall take the oath prescribed by the said article.

Deductions.

sheriff.

17. The tax-payers of Howard county shall be
entitled to the deduction for prompt payment of
State taxes now allowed by law; and to the follow-
ing deductions of county taxes: six per cent, on
payments made on or before the first day of July,
and three per cent, on payment made on or before
the first day of August in the year for which the
taxes are levied, and the collector appointed under
this article shall receive credit from the treasurer
of the county for all such deductions shown to have
been actually made by said collectors in accordance
with this article.
18. It shall be the duty of the sheriff of said
county, from and after the last day of March,
eighteen hundred and sixty, to collect all arrears
