AN ACT to refund to the Society of the Redemp-
torists, certain sums of money for State taxes
erroneously paid by them.
|

WHEREAS, The Redemptorists were incorporated a
Society for religious, literary and charitable pur-
poses by an act of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, passed December session; eighteen hundred
and forty-one, chapter twenty-six; And whereas,
the said Society in ignorance of their rights, paid
taxes upon their property in Anne Arundel county,
where they now reside to the amount of fifty-three
dollars and ninety-one cents, which property be-
longing to an incorporated literary and charitable
institution was exempted from taxation under the
act of eighteen hundred and forty-one, chapter
twenty-three; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer be and he is
hereby required to pay upon the warrant of the
Comptroller, to the order of Michael Muller, Su-
perior of the House of Redemptorists or to the
order of his successor, the sum of fifty-three dol-
lars and ninety-one cents, for State taxes erroneously
paid by said Redemptorists to the State.
