suant hereto shall be responsible for the safekeeping, care and
feeding of all prisoners in said jail from the time they are
lawfully committed thereto (and while lawfully working on
the public highways and going to and from said work) until
they are discharged, released or withdrawn from said jail
by the Sheriff, or pursuant to Court order, or other lawful
authority, provided that nothing herein shall affect the pow-
ers and duties of the Sheriff of such County in respect to the
safekeeping and custody of all prisoners, except when said
prisoners are within said jail, or lawfully working on the
public highways or going to and from said work.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an acute emergency law and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by
three-fifths of all the members elected to each of the two
Houses of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

(House Bill 153)
AN ACT to declare the sanction and consent of the General
Assembly of Maryland to sundry gifts, bequests and devises
contained in the Last Wills and Testaments of certain per-
sons, deceased, and also to certian gifts, grants, sales, leases,
and deeds made by various persons to and for the use and
benefit of sundry ministerial persons, religious corporations,
vestries, educational and charitable institutions, churches,
denominations or sects hereinafter named.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the sanction and consent of said General Assembly
of Maryland be and the same is hereby declared, given and
granted to the following gifts, bequests, devises, grants, sales,
leases, conveyances and deeds, to and from certain persons
