under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Mines, and under
the provisions of Chapter 673 of the Acts of 1949, placed
under the supervision of the State Comptroller, are hereby
transferred so as to be under the general supervision of
the Department of Labor and Industry. The funds here-
tofore or hereafter provided in the Budget under the
Department of Geology, Mines and Water Resources—
Bureau of Mines, for the purpose of paying the salary of
the Inspector of Weights and Mine Scales and the expenses
in connection with the performance of his duties are
hereby transferred to the Department of Labor and In-
dustry. It shall be the duty of said Inspector to have gen-
eral supervision over licensing of persons engaged in the
business of selling solid fuel in Maryland and of persons
weighing solid fuel in connection with the issuance of
delivery tickets. It shall also be the duty of said Inspector
to supervise the testing of tobacco scales and other scales
and measures formerly under the jurisdiction of the Bur-
eau of Mines, any statute to the contrary notwithstanding.
It is hereby expressed to be the legislative intent that the
said Inspector shall have general supervision over all
weights, scales and measures now requiring supervision by
the Bureau of Mines to the end that the District Mine In-
spectors shall be able to devote their full time to the In-
spection of mines. The provisions of Section 31 of Article
89, relating to the appointment and duties of said Inspector
shall remain in force and effect except that where the
words "Chief Mine Engineer" are now used, there shall be
substituted therefor the words "Commissioner of the De-
partment of Labor and Industry," and provided further,
whenever the words "Chief Engineer of the Bureau of
Mines," "Chief Mine Engineer," "Director of the Bureau
of Mines," "Bureau of Mines" or "Bureau" appear in this
sub-title, there shall be substituted therefor the words
"Commissioner of Labor and Industry"; provided that
nothing herein is intended to affect the jurisdiction of the
Bureau of Mines over weighing for the purpose of deter-
mining compensation for the labor of miners, as provided
in Chapter 23 (Compensation to Workmen for Labor) of
sub-title "Bureau of Mines" of Article 89 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition, as amended by
1947 Supplement).

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1950.
