25. (a) An inspector of factories, or other officers charged
with the enforcement of this sub-title may make demand on
any employer in or about whose place or establishment a
minor apparently under the age of 18 years is employed or
permitted or suffered to work, and whose employment cer-
tificate is not filed as required by this sub-title, that such
employer shall either furnish to the person authorized to
issue a certificate for the minor within 15 days satisfactory
evidence that the minor is in fact over 18 years of age, or
shall cease to employ or permit the minor to work in such
place or establishment. The person authorized to issue the
certificate shall require from the employer the same evidence
of age of the minor as is required upon the issuance of an
employment certificate and the employer furnishing such
evidence shall not be- required to furnish any further evidence
of the age of the minor.
(b) In case any employer shall fail to produce and deliver
to the proper authorities within 15 days after demand, the
evidence of age required and shall continue to employ the
minor or permit or suffer the minor to work, proof of the
making of such demand and of the failure to produce and
deliver the evidence of age shall be prima facie evidence of
the illegal employment of the minor in any prosecution
brought therefor.
26. No boy under 12 years of age and no girl under 18
years of age IN ANY CITY HAVING A POPULATION OF
20,000 OR MORE shall distribute, sell, expose or offer for sale
newspapers, magazines or periodicals in any street or public
place.
27. (a) No hoy under 14 years of age and no girl under
18 years of age IN ANY CITY HAVING A POPULATION OF
20,000 OR MORE shall be employed or permitted or suffered
to work at any time as a boot black or in any other trade or
occupation performed in any street or public place, or in
distribution of hand hills or circulars, or any other articles
except newspapers, magazines and periodicals as herein pro-
vided.
(b) Public place as used in this sub-title shall not include
established stands in public buildings, street stands under
roof, nor permanent places of business where the selling of
newspapers, magazines, etc., is a part of the business. Public
place as used in this sub-title shall include only the occupa-
tion of a street trader and means entry into public places
such as restaurants, cafes, taverns, etc., for the purpose of
disposing and selling of their wares.
