SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 4, 5, 7 to 19A, inclusive, 20 to 50, inclu-
sive and 52 of Article 100 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1939 Ed. and 1947 Supp.), title "Work—Hours of, in Fac-
tories", sub-title "Employment of Minors", be and the same
are hereby repealed, and 40 48 new sections, to be known as
Section 4 to 52 51, inclusive, and to follow immediately after
Section 3 of said Article, be and they are hereby enacted in
lieu thereof, all to read as follows:
4' As used in this sub-title "gainful occupation" does not
include employment in farm work or in domestic service in a
private home provided such farm work and domestic service
is performed outside school hours, nor in occasional employ-
ment by a householder in connection with the household and
not in connection with the householder's business or occupa-
tion and ivhen confined to casual domestic tasks performed
outside regular school hours and with the consent of the
parent or legal guardian, nor does it apply to the delivery of
newspapers by newspaperboys on regularly scheduled routes,
except as provided by Section 27 26 of this sub-title.
5. No minor under 14 years of age shall be employed, per-
mitted or suffered to work in, about, or in connection with
any gainful occupation at any time.
6. A minor who has passed his 14th birthday but is under
16 years of age, may be employed, permitted or suffered to
work in, about, or in connection with any gainful occupation,
except no minor under 16 may be employed, permitted or
suffered to work in, about, or in connection with any gainful
occupation during school hours, except a minor 14 or 15 who
has been found incapable of profiting by further instruction
as provided in Section 212 of Article 77 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Cumulative Supplement) title
"Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 21, School Attend-
ance" and is provided with a special employment certificate
in accordance with Section 39 38 of this sub-title or a child 14
or 15 for whom a co-ordination certificate has been issued as
provided in Section 40 39 of this sub-title, and who is partici-
pating in a school work co-ordination plan under the direc-
tion and supervision of the Department of Education. No
minor 14 or 15 years of age may be employed in any occupa-
tion covered by the 16 or 18 year minimum as set forth in
Sections 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, except as such
employment is permissible under any of these aforementioned
sections. He may not be employed in any occupation not
specifically mentioned in this sub-title which after investi-
