CHAPTER 31
(Senate Bill 35)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
37B(b) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensa-
tion and Duties", to repeal and re-enact, with amendments,
Section 544 of the Anne Arundel County Code (1947 Edi-
tion, being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Sheriff",
and to add a new section to said Anne Arundel County
Code, said new section to be known as Section 544A, and to
follow immediately after Section 544 of said Code, increas-
ing the amount for deputies and clerical assistance and
the payments for keeping prisoners at the County Jail, in-
creasing the fees to be charged by the Sheriff for serving
certain wirts, and relating to the payment of certain ex-
penses of the Sheriff' and the disposition of the fees collected
by him and ratifying the past use of fees to pay the expenses
of his office.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 37B(b) of Article 87 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-
title "Compensation and Duties", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
37B.
(b) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall receive an
Minual salary of $3,000. He shall be allowed $7,300 per year
for the deputies and clerical assistance.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 544 of the
Anne Arundel County Code (1947 Edition, being Article 2 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Anne
Arundel County", sub-title "Sheriff", be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and that a new sec-
tion, to be known as Section 544A, and to follow immediately
after Section 544 of said Article, be and it is hereby added to
said Article, and all to read as follows:
544. The Sheriff shall be allowed a warden to the jail to be
appointed by the Sheriff. The warden shall receive a salary
of Seventy-five Dollars per month to be paid by the County
Commissioners each month. The Sheriff shall receive an
allowance of Twenty-five Dollars per month for wages of the
cook for the prisoners in jail and an allowance of Sixty Dol-
lars per month for a night guard for said jail. The Sheriff
shall be allowed the sum of Twenty-five Dollars per month for
'clerical work and record keeping at the jail, and he shall be
