Maryland, said payments to be made from and after the date
of the passage of this Act in equal monthly installments, and
the said County Commissioners are hereby authorized and
directed to levy upon the assessable property of the said
county a tax sufficient to pay the aforesaid amounts.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1948.

(House Bill 26)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 33 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Elections",
sub-title "Registration", said new section to follow imme-
diately after Section 13 of said Article, to be known as
Section 13A of said Article, to authorize the several Boards
of Supervisors of Elections to use registry books consisting
of cards or loose-leaf pages and providing certain exceptions
from the provision of the Election Laws if such cards or
loose-leaf registry books are adopted.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement),
title "Elections", sub-title "Registration", said new section to
follow immediately after Section 13 of said Article, to be
known as Section 13A of said Article, and to read as follows:
13A. In each County, the Board of Supervisors of Elections
is hereby authorized to acquire and use registry books con-
sisting of cards or loose-leaf pages, prepared substantially in
compliance with the provisions of Section 13 of this Article.
If registry books of this character are adopted, they shall be
used in the same manner as permanently bound registry books
except as follows:
(a) The entries with respect to each applicant for regis-
tration instead of being entered in such registry books shall
be entered on cards or loose-leaf pages which shall be returned
to the office of the Supervisors of Elections in sealed en-
velopes, whereupon the same shall be placed in such registry
books which shall be designed so as to prevent the unlawful
removal thereof.
(b) If it shall be determined by the Board of Registry
that the applicant for registration is not a qualified voter in
