SEC. 2. And "be it further enacted, That Section 943 of
Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
(1930 Edition), title "Prince George's County", sub-title
"State's Attorney", as amended by Chapter 499 of the Acts
of the General Assembly of Maryland, Session of 1933, and
by Chapter 459 of the Acts of the General Assembly, Session
of 1936, and by Chapter 292 of the Acts of the General Assem-
bly, Session of 1937, be and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments to read as follows:

943. (a) The State's Attorney for Prince George's County
shall receive a salary of Three Thousand Dollars ($3, 000. 00)
per annum, payable monthly, to be levied for and paid by the
County Commissioners of said County, for the performance
of the official duties of said office, and in addition to said salary
the said State's Attorney shall receive the sum of One Thou-
sand Dollars ($1, 000. 00) per annum, payable monthly, to be
levied for and paid as aforesaid, for his additional expenses in
connection with and incidental to the performance of his of-
ficial duties, which allowance for additional expenses shall be
in addition to those expenses now allowed for the conduct of
his office.

(b) The official duties of said State's Attorney shall in^
elude his attendance and services before the Justices of the
Peace and Trial Magistrates of said County when in his judg-
ment the public interest requires his participation, " as the
representative of the State of Maryland, in proceedings before
said Justices and Magistrates.

(e) The said State's Attorney is hereby authorized and
empowered to appoint a competent person as Law Assistant,
who shall receive a salary of One Thousand Two Hundred
Dollars ($1, 200. 00) per annum, payable monthly, to be levied
for and paid by the County Commissioners of said County, and
in addition to said salary the said Law Assistant shall receive
the sum of Five Hundred Dollars ($500. 00) per annum, pay-
able monthly, to be levied for and paid as aforesaid, for his
additional expenses in connection with and incidental to the
performance of official duties devolving upon him as said Law
Assistant to said State's Attorney.

(d) The said Law Assistant to said State's Attorney shall
be a member of the Bar of the Court of Appeals of Maryland,
shall perform such duties in connection with the official work
of the office of said State's Attorney as he may be directed to
perform by said State's Attorney, may appear in any Court
or before any Justice of the Peace or Trial Magistrate on be-
half of the State of Maryland, at the direction of said State's
