come operative until a petition signed by at least ten per
centum of the qualified voters of the town of Cheverly, Mary-
land, as shown by the registration books used at the then last
regular municipal election, shall be presented to the said
Mayor and Town Council of Cheverly, requesting that the fol-
lowing question be submitted to the legal voters of said Town,
to wit: "Shall a tax of not to exceed twenty cents on each
f 100. 00 of the assessed valuation of all real property within
the town of Cheverly appearing on the books of the town
treasurer be levied each year for the purpose of providing a
fund to be used exclusively for the establishment and mainte-
nance of a garbage and/or trash and/or ash collection and
disposal service within the corporate limits of the town"; and
when such petition shall have been received by the Mayor and
Town Council of Cheverly, they shall cause said question to
be submitted to the qualified voters of said Town at the next
general election to be held in said Town of Cheverly under
the following provisions:

The Mayor and Town Council of Cheverly shall give notice
of the question to be considered by the qualified voters of the
Town of Cheverly by giving notice thereof in some newspaper
published within Prince George's County, Maryland, and hav-
ing a circulation in the said Town of Cheverly, once a week
for two successive weeks prior to said election, and also by
posting notices of such election in at least two places within
the limits of each ward in said Town, said published notices
as well as those posted in the respective wards of said Town,
to contain full details of the question to be voted on.

The ballots shall be prepared as ballots are prepared for a
general town election and shall have printed thereon the words:
"For a special assessment of not to exceed twenty cents on each
f 100. 00 of the assessed valuation of all real property appearing
on the books of the town treasurer to be levied each year for
the purpose of providing a fund for the establishment and
maintenance of a garbage and/or ash and/or trash collection
and disposal service within the corporate limits of the Town of
Cheverly". With a blank square opposite at the right of said
words, and immediately thereunder shall be the following
words: "Against a special assessment of not to exceed twenty
cents on each $100. 00 of the assessed valuation of all real prop-
erty appearing on the books of the town treasurer to be levied
each year for the purpose of providing a fund for the establish-
ment and maintenance of a garbage and/or ash and/or trash
collection and disposal service within the corporate limits
of the Town of Cheverly". With a blank square opposite at the
right of said words.

And in the event that at such election the majority of votes
cast for and against the amendment shall be in favor of allow^
